Empowering Educators: Deepening Collaboration and Innovating for Sustainable Growth
The Jamaica Diaspora Education Task Force will host its 5th Advancement in Education Summit 2019, with the support of LaSierra University, at LaSierra University in Riverside, California, USA.
Under the leadership of JDETF Chairman, Leo Gilling and Education Summit Chair, Lesleyann Samuel, and with the active support of the LaSierra University Department of Education team led by Dr. Chang-ho Ji as well as Loma Linda University’s EXSEED Program led by Mr. Douglas Havens, an exciting program is being planned.
The Education Summit Goals are:
To provide professional development opportunities from workshops that are relevant to today’s teachers and administrators.
To focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as well as Early Childhood Education and Exceptional Student Education.
To create an opportunity for teachers and administrators to engage with visiting and local teachers and administrators.
To extend our program to include Guidance Counselors and Crime Prevention Professionals.
To extend our participants to other Caribbean teachers.
With the support of LaSierra University team and the continued support of the Jamaica Teachers Association, Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, and Jamaica’s National Education Trust, the Education Summit’s program will include:

Current Trends in Education
Workshop Selection: Additional information about all workshops is available on the LaSierra University Education Team’s website. The site will include a short description of the workshop. Participants will be required to visit this site to select the workshops that they would like to attend so that appropriate logistical plans can be made. A reminder concerning this selection process will be provided with Registration Confirmation.

Travel: Participants are required to make their own travel arrangements. The closest international airports are Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario International Airport.
Transportation:Transportation from airports to Riverside, CA can be accomplished with Uber, Lyft, SuperShuttle or taxi. Car rental is recommended since there is much to see and do in California and local transportation is sparse. Transportation will be provided on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the Summit during the day only. The Hampton Inn and Suites is in walking distance to the University. Participants will be responsible for all other transportation needs.
Accommodations: Participants are required to make their own arrangements for accommodations. However, with the assistance of LaSierra Universaity, rooms with up to quadruple (4 person) occupancy rates have been secured at:
Hampton Inn and Suites, Riverside, California. Rooms are available at a rate of $129 per room (+13% tax and 0.195% tourism fee) And are available from Saturday 13th June to Saturday 20th June 2020.
